Searching for the ideal diet has become increasingly confusing for today’s dog owners. Every day, they are confronted with countless recommendations, many of them promoting extreme approaches. Among the most influential is the movement advocating exclusively raw, meat-based feeding.
In my personal opinion, however, a diet based solely on raw meat carries important risks that deserve careful consideration. Over many years of working with dogs, I have witnessed serious health problems associated with highly restrictive feeding philosophies. Consequently, even some of the strongest advocates of all-meat diets have gradually begun acknowledging the limitations of such an approach.
The Consequences of Nutritional Extremes
A diet composed almost entirely of meat may appear biologically appropriate at first glance, but like many nutritional extremes, it has limits. Beyond those limits, an unbalanced feeding strategy may place unnecessary stress on the body’s internal systems over time.
Interestingly, many people who once argued that dogs are strict carnivores now recognize the importance of including carefully selected vegetables and fruits alongside animal-based foods. Nature consistently reminds us that balance matters. Therefore, no living organism thrives indefinitely at either extreme.
The Value of Home-Prepared Meals
For these reasons, I have long recommended freshly prepared, home-cooked meals whenever owners can appropriately formulate them. Preparing fresh food for dogs yourself allows you to know exactly what enters your dog’s bowl.
There are no universal diets that suit every individual dog. Every animal has unique nutritional needs, health conditions, and lifestyle requirements. Yet few things can replace a thoughtfully prepared meal made from carefully selected ingredients in your own kitchen. Fresh food for dogs provides wholesome nutrients without the risks of extreme feeding strategies.

EVERY THOUGHTFULLY PREPARED MEAL IS AN EXPRESSION OF LOVE, COMMITMENT, AND CARE.
Taking Responsibility Beyond Commercial Convenience
Ultimately, the responsibility for our dogs’ long-term health should never rest entirely in the hands of the commercial food industry. While many commercial foods can provide complete nutrition, ingredient quality and formulation vary considerably, making informed choices essential.
One of the greatest gifts we can offer our dogs is the time, care, and attention invested in understanding and preparing their nutrition. Simultaneously, choosing fresh food for dogs ensures that every carefully prepared meal becomes more than simple sustenance.
It becomes an expression of responsibility, commitment, and love. Choose balance over extremes, and provide your dog with a thoughtfully prepared diet built on wholesome, carefully selected ingredients.

To understand and connect deeply with our companions, we must return to the roots and rediscover an authentic, natural relationship with a dog. Through this process, we do not simply learn how to raise an animal. Simultaneously, we learn profound lessons about ourselves. Setting clear and healthy boundaries creates the strong foundation that helps us build stable, balanced, and meaningful relationships with both animals and people.
How Freedom Shapes an Authentic Relationship With Your Dog
As I often told Heni while we walked along the beach: “Let him go. I call him, he does not come, so I simply turn around and walk away.” I often recorded those precise moments. If you truly believe there is a better place for you somewhere else, then go freely.
Yet it is precisely from that absolute freedom that an unbreakable connection emerges. When a living being experiences genuine freedom, it consciously chooses to remain beside you, or beside anyone with whom it wishes to build a bond. Consequently, in the end, freedom becomes one of the most powerful forces of connection when shaping a healthy relationship with a dog.
Trust That Goes Beyond the Need for Control
Many owners unintentionally limit their companions through excessive control and constant physical tension, believing this behavior will keep the dog close to them. However, a stable and natural relationship with a dog can never rely upon the fear of loss.
Only when you consciously let go of that constant need for control will you begin to notice something remarkable. The dog starts choosing to follow your steps voluntarily because it recognizes a calm, stable, and trustworthy leader in you.
Love That Grows Without Cages or Restrictions
When both partners build their dynamic on mutual trust, the dog has no desire to lose the freedom it experiences beside you. The dog does not know whether another place would offer the same emotional freedom or confine it behind harsh restrictions.
The same universal principle applies to love, human relationships, and many other aspects of daily life. True connection does not grow from tightening the leash out of deep-seated fear. Ultimately, a natural relationship with a dog thrives most beautifully when you build it at the highest level of mutual freedom.

Modern pet nutrition often includes mistakes we make without realizing the potential consequences. Certain foods from our own table, especially fatty leftovers, can place enormous stress on a dog’s body. Feeding fatty pork trimmings, pork fat, greasy skin, or processed cheeses may severely challenge the digestive system.
As a result, veterinarians increasingly encounter cases of acute pancreatitis in dogs, a sudden and potentially life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas. In severe cases, immediate veterinary care is essential, as this condition can rapidly become fatal.
Why Do the Liver and Pancreas Become Overwhelmed?
To understand why pancreatitis in dogs happens, we need to look at the deeper biological picture. One important piece of the puzzle is the health of the gut microbiome. When the balance of beneficial intestinal bacteria drops, digestion and nutrient processing may also become impaired.
Consequently, the body can struggle to efficiently process certain foods, particularly those that are extremely rich in fat. This places additional demands on organs such as the liver and pancreas, which must produce digestive secretions to break down those nutrients.
When the Gut Microbiome Falls Out of Balance
The intestinal microbiome plays an essential role in maintaining digestive health and preventing pancreatitis in dogs. Without a healthy population of beneficial microorganisms, digestion becomes less efficient, and the body may have greater difficulty maintaining normal gastrointestinal function.
As digestive balance deteriorates, other organs work harder to compensate. Over time, this increased physiological demand may contribute to broader disturbances throughout the body.

LONG-TERM HEALTH AND INTERNAL BALANCE ARE BUILT GRADUALLY THROUGH THOUGHTFUL DAILY CHOICES.
The Body Functions as One Integrated System
A dog’s body functions as an interconnected biological system. When one part begins to struggle, other organs and glands attempt to compensate in order to maintain internal balance.
Unfortunately, many digestive disturbances remain unnoticed until more obvious symptoms of pancreatitis in dogs appear. For that reason, overall health can never depend on a single food, one supplement, or one individual meal. Therefore, it depends on the body’s ability to efficiently digest, absorb, and utilize nutrients while maintaining internal balance.
Building Your Dog’s Health One Day at a Time
Supporting your dog’s health involves more than simply reading ingredient labels. It also requires understanding how your dog’s body digests and uses the nutrients provided every day.
Long-term health never develops overnight, nor do we achieve it through quick fixes. Ultimately, owners build it gradually through thoughtful daily choices made with patience and care.
Supporting a healthy gut microbiome with an appropriate diet and, where appropriate, fermented foods recommended by your veterinarian or a qualified nutrition professional can become one important part of maintaining digestive health. Simultaneously, these actions protect your companion from acute conditions like pancreatitis in dogs while supporting overall wellbeing.

When behavioral problems arise in the home, owners often find themselves in serious conflict with their surroundings. Sudden aggression in dogs toward people or other animals can create enormous stress, confusion, and daily anxiety. However, the root of the problem often lies in one important dynamic: a dog may begin displaying defensive or aggressive behavior when it feels responsible for managing situations that it does not feel equipped to handle. In those overwhelming moments, the dog attempts to take control of circumstances because it does not perceive enough stability or guidance within its environment.
An Imaginary Scenario: The Flight Attendant in the Cockpit
To better understand this complex behavioral dynamic, Sasha often uses a powerful aviation metaphor.
Imagine you are on an airplane when suddenly the pilot loses consciousness. The co-pilot is also unable to fly the aircraft, so the plane switches to autopilot. Moments later, a flight attendant rushes into the cabin, walks directly to you, and informs you that you must now fly the airplane. Panic immediately takes over your mind. You have absolutely no knowledge of aviation, you do not know what the complex controls mean, and you do not know how to land the aircraft safely. And yet, suddenly, the ultimate responsibility falls entirely on you.
When Fear Becomes an Overwhelming Responsibility
At first, you fear for your own life. But very quickly, your attention shifts to the hundreds of passengers who now depend entirely on your choices. You know that you remain completely unprepared for the heavy responsibility placed upon your shoulders. Stress rises rapidly, anxiety intensifies, and every decision feels completely impossible.
According to this metaphor, many canine companions experience a similar emotional burden when dealing with aggression in dogs. They display intense reactive behavior simply because they feel responsible for handling situations they do not fully understand. Consequently, they carry immense environmental pressure they were never meant to carry in the first place.

THE AIRPLANE METAPHOR: RETURNING STABILITY AND CONTROL TO THE COCKPIT.
Returning the Pilot to the Cockpit
From this holistic perspective, aggression in dogs does not stems from dominance or an inherent desire to harm. Instead, it emerges when the dog feels completely overwhelmed by responsibility, uncertainty, or a severe lack of clear guidance. The nervous system eventually reaches a critical breaking point, and defensive reactions begin to appear.
Therefore, the solution does not involve force, harsh punishment, or direct physical confrontation. The true goal requires creating an environment in which the dog no longer feels responsible for controlling every situation around them. When guardians restore stability, consistency, and trust, the dog can gradually release that heavy emotional burden. In other words, the pilot successfully returns to the cockpit.
Ultimately, the dog becomes free to be a calm, balanced dog again.

Losing a beloved dog is one of the most painful and emotionally overwhelming experiences any owner can endure. When the inevitable moment of goodbye arrives, we naturally feel a deep need to bring years of companionship to a meaningful close.
In those difficult moments, many people wonder how they can honor their faithful friend with dignity. Is burying a dog the right way to express gratitude for a lifetime of unconditional love?
Emotionally, most of us answer that question with an immediate „yes.“ We long for a place where we can return, leave a flower, and quietly remember the life we shared.
What Do the Law and Public Health Regulations Say About Burying a Dog?
While our hearts search for peace, the law often presents a different reality. In many places, public health regulations prohibit burying a dog in a private backyard or on public land. Many owners are unaware that doing so may violate local regulations designed to protect public health and environmental standards.
Each municipality has its own procedures and authorized veterinary services responsible for handling the remains of deceased animals. Consequently, many owners find themselves caught between their emotional needs and legal requirements regarding burying a dog.
Euthanasia: The Final Act of Love and Compassion
During this difficult journey of saying goodbye, many owners eventually face one of the hardest decisions of their lives. There comes a time when age or illness takes over, and we can no longer bear to watch our beloved companion suffer.
Choosing euthanasia in those moments does not represent an act of giving up. Instead, it often serves as the final act of compassion and unconditional love. We willingly carry the emotional pain ourselves so that our dogs no longer have to endure physical suffering. Therefore, this decision demands extraordinary courage, selflessness, and love.

THE GREATEST MEMORIAL LIVES WITHIN OUR HEARTS AND IN THE GRATITUDE WE CARRY FORWARD.
A Meaningful Goodbye Helps the Healing Process
Honoring the life of a beloved dog represents an expression of love, but owners must also understand and respect the legal framework that exists within their communities. Fortunately, a meaningful farewell does not rely solely on a physical resting place.
A Lasting Tribute Lives in Gratitude
Whatever limitations the law may impose, the true meaning of this final farewell remains unchanged. Burying a dog is not the only way to honor a life so deeply loved. The greatest memorial does not rest beneath the earth or stand carved into stone; it lives within our hearts.
The moment we accept the natural cycle of life and death, we create space for lasting gratitude rather than endless sorrow. Ultimately, honor your faithful companion by carrying forward the love, kindness, and compassion they brought into your life. Simultaneously, continue sharing those precious gifts with the world around you.
